Permission to Start Dreaming's Race for a Soldier
This event will take place Sunday, September 13th and starts and finishes at the YMCA. Kiwanis will be cooking pancakes for participants and volunteers in the YMCA parking lot. Race For A Soldier is presented by the Permission To Start Dreaming Foundation to raise awareness of the challenges faced by our military service members, veterans and first responders living with the effects of Post-Traumatic Stress and Traumatic Brain Injuries. The Foundation has delivered Mind, Body and Spirit workshops; courage and leadership summits; eliminated barriers for veterans to receive equine therapy and counseling; facilitates the Warrior PATHH training program; and peer to peer support meetings called “Huddles” in Gig Harbor. Gig Harbor Film Festival
This popular festival is September 24th-27th at the Galaxy Theatres in Gig Harbor. The Gig Harbor Film Festival is emerging as one of the hottest destinations on the independent film festival circuit. Since their first festival in 2007, they have taken great care in providing an unforgettable festival experience for filmmakers and film-lovers. Today, the festival hosts more than 80 visiting filmmakers, screens over 100 films, and reaches an audience of over 4,000! Kiwanis volunteers provide support in many areas of the festival including hosting a meal for the filmmakers.
9th Annual Gig Harbor Veterans Day Celebration
This celebration will take place on Wednesday, November 11th and will be honoring the 250th Anniversary of Signing of the Declaration of Independence and honoring the 25th Anniversary of 9/11.This is the largest indoor Veterans Day event in Washington State and is located at the Gig Harbor Antique Aero Museum, Tacoma Narrows Airport. This event is brought to you by the Kiwanis Club of Gig Harbor. Please join us as we honor our Veterans and their families. All community members are invited. Our club focuses on community initiatives and children-centered projects, striving to uplift local children by fostering growth and empowerment for a brighter future.
We are passionate about raising funds and donations to aid local children and families, while also offering support for higher education through various annual scholarships.
This is our signature program unique to the Kiwanis Club of Gig Harbor. We work with the Peninsula School District and other community partners to fund requests for clothing, classroom awards, and field trips.
