WHAT WE DO

Kiwanis Club of Gig Harbor
Community Service Projects

  • AKtion Club is a Kiwanis service club for adults with developmental disabilities. The purpose of the club is to enable service-minded people to volunteer in projects that benefit the community. Kiwanis Club of Gig Harbor serves in an advisory role for our local AKtion Club.
  • Altrusa: We support Altrusa’s annual Empty Bowls fundraiser, monetarily and with hands-on support at the event.
  • Red Cross Blood Drives: We promote blood drives throughout the year in partnership with PenMet Parks.
  • City of Gig Harbor Road Clean-ups: We volunteer quarterly to clean Burnham Drive and Wagner Way to help keep Gig Harbor beautiful.
  • ECEAP (Early Childhood Education Assistance Program), We read books to pre-kindergarten-age children. The children each get to take home a book to share with their families. All books are provided by Kiwanis, after being selected by the ECEAP teachers.
  • Food Drives: We conduct food drives for specific needs to benefit families connected with Food Backpacks 4 Kids and Peninsula Fish Food Bank.
  • Gig Harbor Film Festival: Partnering with this extraordinary film festival, we provide the VIP Lounge (a beautiful RV with food and drink) for filmmakers and other VIPs. Our club also provides the Saturday Night dinner.
  • Gig Harbor Lighted Car Parade and Holiday Food and Toy Drive: Kiwanis joins forces with some community members to put on this event. The event takes place in Uptown and includes a food and toy drive and about 75 vehicles that participate in the lighted car parade.
  • Historic Skansie House: We maintain the landscaping and flower gardens surrounding the Skansie House in the heart of downtown Gig Harbor.
  • Honoring Project: We supported this Civic Project honoring the indigenous people of Gig Harbor with a beautiful statue hand-carved by an indigenous artist.
  • KidVantage: We provide monetary support (through the Gig Harbor Kiwanis Foundation), and club members also volunteer at KidVantage as well as donate needed items to help babies and young children from families in need.
  • Kiwanis Cares for Kids (KCK)  - See “Youth Programs” for more details.
  • Maritime Gig Festival (Gig Harbor Chamber): For over 25 years we have provided a free pancake breakfast for the community to support this annual local festival.
  • Peninsula Hands on Art: We support this school-district-wide project with a monetary donation as well as hands-on help for unique art projects in the elementary classrooms.
  • PenMet Parks: Along with our Key Clubs, we volunteer at PenMet events such as Cookies with Mr. and Mrs. Claus, the Spring Egg Hunt, Outdoor Concerts and Movies, and the Scarecrow Festival. We also grill hot dogs at several outdoor events for families as part of our partnership with PetMet.
  • Permission to Start Dreaming Foundation: We cook pancakes, a community favorite, for the annual Race for a Soldier fundraiser
  • Veterans Day Celebration: We offer leadership in the planning and implementation of the annual Gig Harbor Veteran’s Day event, offering our thanks to the many veterans in our community.
  • Veterans Banners: The Kiwanis Club of Gig Harbor presents a chance to pay tribute to a Veteran or First Responder. The banners hang on one of the forty allocated light poles on Harborview Drive in the autumn.
  •  Washington State America’s 250th: We are an official 2026 Partner in this campaign.
